Arrivals + Departures is a public artwork about birth, death and the journey in between, created by UK artist duo Yara + Davina.
Taking the recognisable form of an arrivals and departures board, the artwork displays names of people, submitted by the public, as a way of celebrating and commemorating a birth (an arrival) or a death (a departure).
Located in City Square, these nostalgic display boards capture the joy and sadness of any arrivals hall or departure lounge.
How to add a name to the Boards:
Visitors and passers-by will be able to contribute names at the boards in City Square with the assistance of Festival Stewards, at Millton Keynes Central Library or online here: arrivalsanddepartures.net
Yara + Davina - Yara El-Sherbini and Davina Drummond - make social practice artwork, creating ambitious public artworks that respond to site, context and audience. Using formats such as jokes to mini golf, choirs and tattoo parlours, they root their works in the everyday, using a lightness of touch and humour to make works that are both poetic and universal.
